Solving the Problem

Through my research and interviews, I have found an opportunity that exists in improving the student test-taking experience. Often, students will take exams and never know which questions they got right or wrong unless they go through the trouble of finding out for themselves. Often, this involves keeping note of an extra answer sheet during the examination to check afterwards with an answer key, or meeting with an instructor. Nonetheless, both methods take TIME and EFFORT - of which college students are well aware that there is a limited supply of. There needs to be a way for students to get feedback on their exams without there being a nuisance in doing so. That is why I believe automated exam feedback carries a great business opportunity.

I propose a new system to the test-taking experience. Instead of just seeing a raw number score, students will receive instant feedback of their right and wrong answers separated by question category-type. For example, if a mid-term tests a student's knowledge pertaining information from three course modules, the feedback will breakdown the questions he/she answered incorrectly from each module. The system will thus let students know which subject areas they are weak in. The system provides value for instructors as well, because it will provide demographics of question difficulty and overall student performance. My system has three distinct parts: answer sheets, hardware and software that both reads the answer sheets and sends feedback information to instructors and students via email.
